Abstract
On July 8, former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe was assassinated during a campaign speech in Nara. Abe was one of the most charismatic and controversial figures in Japanese politics. Although he stepped down as prime minister in 2020 for health reasons, he remained a dominant figure in Japanese politics. Japanese political life has lost a very important figure with his death. It is therefore worth taking a look at his achievements as prime minister, and what to expect in terms of Japanese foreign and domestic policy.
